Jordan Magid

Meet Jordan

Jordan Magid is a multidisciplinary Peruvian-American artist and entrepreneur with an expansive background in the public art world. In 2011, Jordan created his first company, U-Doodle, to educate teenagers about the power of community art in addressing local issues. In 2016, Jordan founded his second company, Unconventional Group, to produce large-scale public artwork using participatory art techniques. 

Jordan’s public art experience is influenced by a combination of artistic and academic sources, namely the ‘happenings’ of the late 50’s in New York City, the formulaic wall drawings of Sol Lewitt, the process oriented work of Christo and Jeanne-Claude, the rich history of civic art interventions as researched by Dr. Doris Sommer, and the science of community well-being led by Dr. Isaac Prilleltensky.

Starting in 2024, Jordan focused his attention on developing his own visual language as an oil painter and draftsman. Drawing from masters such as El Greco, Velazquez and Goya as well as from modern luminaries such as Max Beckmann, Edward Hopper, and Francis Bacon, Magid is interested in capturing the heavy weight of beauty inherent in the everyday moments of living. Jordan’s work is painted from life, rooted in the human body with importance given to context, especially the mundane objects that surround it. Magid’s paintings are intent on going beyond narrative and representation to highlight the emotional experience of perception.

In addition to his artistic endeavours, Jordan is an experienced executive in Operations for tech startups. Since 2019, Magid has been a co-founder of Dollaride, a New York City based transportation company helping small businesses transition to using electric vehicles.

Jordan completed his Masters degree at Harvard University, where he studied the intersection of human development, political psychology and social entrepreneurship. He received his Bachelor degree from the University of Miami with degrees in english literature, biology and chemistry.
